Daimler Truck and Sereact have joined forces to develop an AI-powered solution that fully automates kitting processes. The video shows how the system easily handles even complex items using a hybrid gripper.

For decades, robots have been an indispensable part of production in the automotive sector. But what about the kitting process, where required items are picked manually and made available for assembly? This has been a bottleneck in the production line for a long time, slowing down the entire process. That is, until now.

Daimler Truck AG and Sereact have joined forces to develop an AI-powered solution that fully automates kitting processes. One of the main challenges was generating robust gripping strategies for diverse and often complex objects. Sereact’s AI software can predict optimal object-to-gripper matches, enabling the system to calculate which gripper best suits each object's shape and position.

Additionally, the Zimmer Group's hybrid gripper eliminates the need for a gripper-change system. Instead, it combines the advantages of a two-finger and a suction gripper and can change them "on the fly," thus saving valuable time.

As a result, the AI-powered automation of kitting processes leads to faster production times, increased efficiency, cost savings, and reduced errors.
