Introducing Cortex: A Foundation for General Robotic Intelligence

The robotics industry is at a turning point. Rigid pipelines and task-specific programming no longer scale in the face of operational complexity, domain shifts, and hardware diversity. What's needed is not brittle automation—but general intelligence.
Cortex is Sereact's general-purpose Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model. It unifies perception, reasoning, and control in a single system—trained on the largest real-world robotics dataset ever assembled. Cortex delivers zero-shot capabilities across robotic arms, mobile manipulators, and humanoids.
From logistics to manufacturing, Cortex is powering the next wave of intelligent, adaptable, and production-grade robots – and already deployed in 100+ real-world systems.

From Hardcoding to Physical AI

Legacy automation is rule-based and brittle. Cortex replaces traditional pipelines with a unified system that learns from demonstrations and real operations, generalizes across tasks, and executes without reprogramming or task-specific logic. At scale, it enables zero-shot bin picking, robust recovery from edge cases, and seamless transfer across hardware with no fine-tuning.

Built on Real-World Scale

What makes Cortex special is that it learns from live operations, not just simulation. Its dataset spans thousands of hours of industrial activity: multi-modal sensor streams (RGB, depth, videos, proprioception), tele-operated and autonomous episodes, human and VLM-generated instructions, and fine-grained failure and recovery traces. This scale and specificity unlock grounded generalization. Cortex doesn't just mimic how tasks should work — it understands how they succeed and fail in real production.

Why Cortex Is Different

1.

Low-level intelligence

Breaks tasks into motion, contact, and recovery in real time with live perception.

2.

Teach by language or demo

Update behavior with natural language or guided motions—no scripts, no rules.

3.

Resilient in production

Blacklists risky SKUs, routes around hazards, and auto-repicks when uncertain.

4.

Adaptable & production-ready

Runs across putwalls, conveyors, AMRs, AutoStore, and more—hardware-agnostic, WMS integrated, operator-friendly.

How Cortex works

Mixture of Experts Vision Language Model

Transforms multimodal data into structured tasks with three outputs: subtasks, pixel-level actions, and grounding. A Mixture of Experts ensures scalable, low-latency specialization. Reinforcement alignment reduces hallucinations, while memory buffers improve robustness. The result: generalizable, interpretable, production-ready robotic intelligence.

Meta policy modulation layer

Coordinates reasoning and control for long-horizon tasks. Fuses multimodal inputs into a unified perception–plan–action loop. A Mixture of Experts predicts subtasks, grounding, and pixel actions, linking intent to execution. Actions are 2D pixel trajectories for transferability and reinforcement. Anticipates future states for robustness, while discrete token outputs align planning and acting with language for interpretability and generalization.

Low-Level Control Action Experts

Transforms Meta Policy outputs—subtasks, pixel actions, grounding—into coherent robot motion. Autoregressively generates action tokens for short trajectories, decoded into motor commands. Separate transformers handle modalities, with Mixture of Experts ensuring low-latency scalability. Flow Matching improves training over diffusion. Real-time feedback ensures smooth execution, constraints prevent unsafe states, calibration-free motion handles camera shifts, and historic smoothing reduces jerk.

Intelligence that scales

Robust edge case handling

Cortex handles materials and scenes that break classical pipelines.

  • Transparent and reflective packaging like shrink wrap and blister packs
  • Deformables such as clothing, bags and cables where contact dynamics matter
  • Partial occlusions where identity and grasp need inference
  • Unexpected perturbations like drops or slips that trigger autonomous replanning
  • Ambiguous instructions where intent is inferred from context

What you can expect

Cortex delivers functional autonomy in hours, not weeks. It executes core workflows like bin picking, sorting and placement without retraining or manual calibration. In customer deployments we have brought systems online and made them production ready in less than a day. The result is faster ROI and lower total cost to deploy.

Higher from day one success rates

More completed picks, fewer stoppages, smoother shifts.

Robust performance on messy work

Takes on unstructured tasks that used to need manual intervention.

integrated stack

Deploy complex workflows without custom pipelines or brittle scripts.

Faster changes without code

Adjust behaviour in plain language. Teach a new motion once, save it, move on.

Where Cortex drives value

Structured
industries

In sectors like automotive and electronics, many steps are already automated. Cortex fills the gaps that remain, where contact-rich dexterity and fast recovery matter.

Automotive assembly line with robotic arms

Unstructured
industries

In logistics and retail, processes are structured but items are not. Diversity, deformability and surprise kill brittle systems. Cortex thrives in that mix, which is why pick and place, returns and bagging are early winners.
